The Australian Wild Horse Research Institute examines the scientific evidence, population data and management assumptions used in decisions affecting Australia’s wild horses.

Research focuses on whether published population estimates can be reconciled across successive years, independently reproduced and scientifically verified before they are relied upon to justify irreversible management action.

Current analysis of Kosciuszko National Park data examines the reported 17,393 horses in 2023, 3,885 in 2024 and 10,309 in 2025, together with 6,393 reported removals.
