This research examines whether successive Kosciuszko National Park Brumby population estimates can be scientifically reconciled and independently reproduced.

The research does simply describe 7,115 Brumbies as “missing.” It identifies a 7,115-horse reconciliation residual requiring attribution through demographic processes, movement, removals, detection, sampling, observation, methodological differences and statistical uncertainty.

This substantial change requires explicit examination of both population processes and the observation and estimation processes that generated these data estimates.
