Management decisions affecting Australia’s wild horses should be based on robust, independently verifiable evidence. Where consequences are irreversible, the evidentiary standard should be correspondingly high.

The Australian Wild Horse Research Institute conducts independent academic research into Brumby populations, population-estimation methodology, equine behaviour, welfare, heritage and public policy.
Brumbies are living animals with complex social structures, histories and enduring cultural significance. Research concerning their future should therefore meet the highest standards of scientific transparency, methodological integrity and independent scrutiny when concerning Australia's heritage.
